5 years ago, Jesy Nelson released ‘Boyz’ ft. Nicki Minaj.
'Boyz' began as Jesy Nelson's idea, conceptualized and co-written by her in the wake of a painful break-up. The sample came while she was heartbroken and thinking about the kind of boys she keeps falling for, so she flipped Diddy's 2001 anthem 'Bad Boy for Life,' with Black Rob and Mark Curry. Loose Change produced it, with Oladayo Olatunji, Hanni Ibrahim, Abby Keen, Amanda Atoui, Avital Levy, and Patrick Jordan-Patrikios among the writers. It leans into the 90s and early 2000s hip-hop and R&B she grew up on, and it reunited her with Nicki Minaj for a second collaboration after 'Woman Like Me' in 2018.
Polydor released it on October 8, 2021 as her first solo single since leaving Little Mix at the end of 2020. Minaj announces the reunion of the UK baddie and the Barbie in her verse. The video, directed by Harry James, is a homage to Diddy's original clip. Nelson and her crew roll up in a tour bus to a mansion in a neighbourhood...
