International Court of Justice judge Navi Pillay was “completely taken by shock” to find out she had won the Nobel Peace Prize - especially because she couldn’t be reached by the Nobel Prize team. The award was announced to the public before the committee had a chance to speak to Pillay, as she attended an international law conference in Nuremberg, Germany and had her phone turned off. Navi Pillay won the Nobel Peace Prize for her lifelong efforts to promote peace, international law, and human rights accountability.
