Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said that "immediately after” US President Donald Trump announced an energy ceasefire, Russia hit a power plant in Kharkiv.
Blackouts have been recorded in Ukraine, while Kharkiv was targeted overnight, Ukraine’s second-largest city. Homes have been damaged and many people have been forced to take shelter.
Trump has been urging Ukraine to stop strikes on Russian oil infrastructure so Moscow can fulfil a recently struck deal to release diesel to the US and the global market. Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum today, Zelensky said a “ceasefire could be major step towards ending the war.”
Responding to Zelensky’s comments, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Ukraine doesn't deserve the "respite" that a ceasefire would bring.
