Most of the time, hurricanes are predicted well in advance, giving people plenty of time to prepare. Florida homes are often built to handle strong winds, and you can add things like storm shutters or a generator for extra peace of mind. Plus, the last two major hurricanes in Florida were extremely rare events. It’s not something we deal with every year. And honestly, living in Florida comes with so many perks—warm weather all year, a laid-back lifestyle, and endless outdoor activities. Most people feel that all of this makes up for the small chance of dealing with a big storm. With some planning and awareness, you can enjoy everything Florida has to offer and stay safe at the same time. To be extra cautious, I typically recommend living inland and not directly on the water. The beach is great but you don’t have to live a mile away from the coast.
