In celebration of ICOM’s International Museum Day, we want to highlight some of the work we are doing to protect and preserve our cultural assets. Each year since 2020, International Museum Day supports a set of goals from the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. This year, the Deering Estate in partnership with University of Florida and The Craig Group initiated “Resilient Deering: Modeling the Future of MDC Parks.” Through LiDAR scanning and site documentation, this project explores the impact of coastal hazards on historic properties and cultural resources. With our partners, this project has allowed us to engage the community to develop adaptation strategies for the Deering Estate that can be utilized by future generations and other sites. We are committed to promoting healthy lives, mitigating climate change, and protecting terrestrial ecosystems.
