We’ve been exploring how it can be possible to build a new home in the countryside sometimes even in an area of outstanding natural beauty AONB. A little known policy HO11 - previously known as paragraph 84 allows for exceptionally designed houses to be built in places where otherwise they would be impossible. The key criteria are:
1.The architecture must be truly outstanding, reflecting the highest standards of design and contributing to raising architectural standards more generally in rural areas.
2. The development must significantly enhance its immediate setting while responding sensitively to the defining characteristics of the local landscape.
We’ve been testing out a site and design using these principals.
