Clashes broke out in Brussels as tens of thousands took to the streets to protest government austerity measures and planned tuition fee increases. Police say around 30,000 people joined Friday's demonstration, which saw a bus damaged, fires set and objects thrown at officers by some groups. Officers responded with tear gas and water cannon, with 21 people reportedly detained or arrested, including 13 minors. The unrest also disrupted public transport and flights as the protests brought parts of the Belgian capital to a standstill.
