It’s been a very active hurricane season in the eastern Pacific so far, and it’s not slowing down yet. We’ve got two storms set to strike Mexico Saturday night: Tropical Storm Rachel and Hurricane Simon. Simon will be a strong but compact hurricane when it makes landfall near Manzanillo/Puerto Vallarta, but it's the rain - and potential flooding - that could be disastrous. Up to 20 inches of rain could fall around Manzanillo northward into Jalisco by Sunday.
Rachel will be a much weaker - and drier - tropical storm when it makes landfall Saturday night much further north on the Baja peninsula, near Ensenada. This will bring rain and high surf to southern California, but probably only a few sprinkles to the San Joaquin Valley.
