POV: BRUV Episode 19 - Peixe-porco in Madeira, Portugal
Hello from Madeira, Portugal! 👋🏽 Our remote cameras have spotted quite a few grey triggerfish (Balistes capriscus) in these waters. Known locally as “peixe-porco,” the fish are distinctive for their deep, oval shape and their unique plate-like scales.
Grey triggerfish are benthic predators, using their beak-like jaws and strong teeth to feed on hard-shelled invertebrates like mollusks and crustaceans.
Baited remote underwater video systems (BRUVs) are a scientific surveying tool that uses unmanned high-definition cameras to spot and record species on a reef. In this
#POVBRUV series, we leave the humans behind and watch what happens.
