Somewhere in a Bento test kitchen, someone looked at a sushi roll and thought it needed coleslaw.
The grocery store sushi brand has launched a Nashville Hot Chicken Roll, and it is exactly as chaotic as it sounds. It’s crispy chicken katsu rolled up with sushi rice, dill pickles and coleslaw, then finished with fried pickle chips, Nashville hot sauce and spicy mayo.
Bento says it’s riding the “swicy” trend, the sweet and spicy combo that’s showing up on menus everywhere. Pickles on sushi is a newer development.
The roll is part of Bento’s 30th anniversary and is available now at participating locations across Canada, including select grocery stores and campus spots. Expect to pay around $13 to $15.
Would you try it, or should sushi stay sushi?
