My heart is heavy for my alma mater, East High. As you may know, us East folks are called “Angels.” The Angel represents hope, courage, and protection. We need those qualities now more than ever. A second shooting in just 37 days. Two young people dead. One, Luis, a victim; the other a perpetrator. Two deans injured. My prayers go out to all involved, right now especially to the family of Luis and Eric Sinclair, the Dean of Culture who was on staff when I was there. I pray he makes a speedy recovery. My heart goes out to all the students, teachers, and administrators affected by this tragedy. It's not just about this one school - it's about the larger issues in Denver Public Schools and society. Every student and staff member deserves to feel safe in their school. When I was at East, we had some fights and violence, and the occasional larger threat.
