It’s difficult to visualize what Colorado under a Gov. Victor Marx would look like — and not only because he’s a first-time candidate with no prior political experience. Since he won the Republican primary in June, he has avoided debates and has not run as a policy-heavy candidate. He built a nonprofit that has grown to $7 million in annual revenues, but that represents a fraction of the $47 billion budget he would oversee as governor. And there is little stock of cabinet-ready conservative political appointees after years of Democratic control of the state, particularly because many prominent Republicans — who would ordinarily help Marx’s campaign and vie for future cabinet roles — have criticized him or kept him at arm’s length. The Denver Post published stories looking at how both major-party candidates for Colorado governor would approach the job.
