At 9:23 p.m., Ann Arbor Public Schools superintendent Jeanice Swift sent an email communicating that there will be no school tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 22 due to an ice storm warning.
“The closure decision is based on ensuring the safety of students and staff,” Swift wrote. “As is our commitment, when possible, we are sharing this school weather closure announcement tonight in order to give families some time to make arrangements.”
According to the National Weather Service (NSW) there has been an ice storm warning issued for Washtenaw, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and St.Clair counties from noon tomorrow until 4 a.m. on Thurs. Feb. 22. This winter weather message was sent at 3:33 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023.
“Travel could be nearly impossible,” NSW reported. “The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening community. “Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice.”
