Professional tennis can look like a dream from the outside. Players travel the world, compete in packed stadiums and can earn millions in prize money. But for many lower-ranked professionals, the reality is much different.
Players are responsible for expenses like travel, hotels, coaching and tournament fees, and those costs can outweigh what they earn on the court. In 2022, professional player Kiranpal Pannu earned $6,771 in prize money while spending approximately $34,500 primarily on travel.
“Tennis is a very costly sport,” Andrey Rublev said in 2021. Behind the millions earned by the biggest names in tennis are hundreds of professionals trying to earn enough to continue chasing the same dream.
