Standing 50 feet tall above the Missouri River, Dignity: of Earth & Sky is more than a South Dakota landmark. Created by South Dakota artist Dale Lamphere, the sculpture honors the cultures of the Lakota and Dakota people. At its center is a star quilt made from 128 stainless-steel blue diamond shapes, inspired by a tradition that holds deep significance in Native communities. The faces of three Native American women from Rapid City served as inspiration for Dignity’s face, creating a tribute intended to represent the strength, courage and wisdom of Indigenous women. Overlooking the Missouri River near Chamberlain, @dignitysodak offers a place to reflect, learn and recognize the Indigenous cultures that have shaped this land for generations and continue to thrive today. This Native American Day, we honor South Dakota’s nine Tribal Nations and the living cultures, communities and traditions they carry forward. 📍 Dignity: of Earth & Sky | Chamberlain, South Dakota #HiFromSD #Nativ...
