When someone we care about is struggling, there can be so much pressure to say the right thing.
I know that feeling from both sides.
When I was struggling with anxiety during medical school, the people who helped me most could not make the pain disappear. What mattered was that they listened, stayed present and made me feel that what I was going through mattered.
That experience still shapes how I approach patients, colleagues and people in my own life.
You do not always need answers.
Sometimes support looks like listening without judgment, showing kindness and being willing to stay beside someone while they find their way forward.
The right words can help.
But sometimes being there matters even more.
