John Cena says WWE's 2008 move to PG programming took years to pay off.
On What Now? with Trevor Noah, Cena said: "When you rebrand, it takes 10, 15 years to get over. We got over, and I was happy to be involved in a lot of that rebranding process."
He said wrestlers used to be looked down on: "They're just carnies. Like, we used to be just carny folk."
Cena credited social media and the PG product's global reach for the change: "Our audience is super engaging. You can't ignore the math. You can't ignore the data."
