Kingscote made its debut in HBO’s “The Gilded Age” last night in a role that shows how much tastes changed between its construction in the early 1840s and the Gilded Age of the 1880s. Kingscote appears as the Newport home of Susan Blane, a widow who hires Larry Russell as architect to remodel the house. Larry remarks that the rooms are too small – even calling one a “rabbit hutch” – while Mrs. Blane suggests the décor in the Drawing Room is “drab” and “dreary.” We beg to disagree, but the point is that Kingscote represents a style that has gone out of fashion among the nouveau riche of the Gilded Age, for whom bigger and flashier is always better. Regardless, we love seeing the Newport Mansions represented so beautifully throughout Season 2 of HBO's acclaimed series. hbo gildedagehbo streamonmax #GildedAge #TheGildedAge #Kingscote #NewportMansions
