There’s less than a month before Holidays at the Newport Mansions begins on November 20, but by then this sea of green in our greenhouse will have turned a rich red. More than 500 poinsettias, started from cuttings, have been growing since mid-April, along with 1,200 Oriental lilies started from bulbs in mid-August. Now they are reaching maturity, just in time to be placed in The Breakers, Marble House and The Elms as part of the extensive decorations – including the 15-foot-tall poinsettia tree in The Breakers Great Hall.
