As The Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival gets underway today, we celebrate by sharing this soft paste porcelain punch bowl (circa 1880) from the collection at Chateau-sur-Mer. Produced by the English ceramic manufacturer Minton & Co., it stands on a footed base decorated with dolphins, seaweed, coral and seashells with overglaze polychrome decoration. The exterior of the bowl is painted with a frieze of putti playing music and imbibing wine. The interior rim has a border of bountiful grapevines, and the center depicts a scene of putti who may have enjoyed their wine a little too much. Cheers to this year’s festival attendees!
