On this day in 1896, Fannie Farmer published her first cookbook, paying for the printing of the first 3,000 copies of "The Boston Cooking-School Cook Book.” It went on to sell millions. Featuring over 1,300 recipes with step-by-step instructions and an emphasis on exact measurements, it forever changed home meal preparation. How many of those Gilded Age recipes do you think were prepared in this kitchen at The Breakers, which was completed less than a year before the book was published? Incidentally, if you are looking for a new cookbook, we have a variety available at our Newport Mansions stores at Bannister's Wharf or The Breakers.
