Jacqueline Kennedy was renowned for her sense of style, but as first lady, her restoration of the state rooms of the White House was far more than cosmetic. She aimed for a better reflection of the mansion’s artistic and architectural history.
"Everything in the White House must have a reason for being there ... It must be restored – and that has nothing to do with decoration. That is a question of scholarship," Kennedy told Life magazine.
Join us virtually on Thursday, July 16, at 5:30 p.m. for "The People’s House: Jacqueline Kennedy’s White House Restoration Project," with Katherine Gilliland, Docent Manager at the John F. Kennedy Library. She will offer a behind-the-scenes look through documents and photographs from the library’s collections.
