Sometimes, keeping a roof over your head can be a real challenge! On this Throwback Thursday, we look back to 2002, when The Breakers received a new roof during a restoration project that took almost a full year and cost approximately $2 million. Work began in March of '02 and included rebuilding several chimneys, replacing the entire roofing system — including more than 30,000 terra cotta tiles — and restoring or replacing rooftop skylights. In addition, the exterior limestone walls were power washed to remove decades of grime and lichen growth. Today, The Breakers and The Elms are open seven days a week, so take advantage of our lower reopening prices. Reservations are essential. newportmansions.org Please remember face coverings are required and we are following social distancing measures.
