These two paintings by Hyacinthe Rigaud (1659-1743) will be making a visit to Versailles later this year. It's a fitting place for them because Marble House, where they now are displayed, is fashioned after the Petit Trianon at Versailles. Our Collections Committee recently approved the loan of the two portraits to the Château de Versailles for a Rigaud exhibition from November 2020 to March 2021. These art treasures first will undergo conservation work and then will be transported to France in October. Rigaud was a favorite painter of Louis XIV and French nobility, but his subjects came from all over Europe. These portraits are of Charles III Ferdinand, Duke of Mantua (1652-1708) and Suzanne-Henriette De Lorraine, Duchess of Mantua (1686-1710). They hang in the Dining Room of Marble House and will be replaced by facsimiles until they return from France next year. #thepreservationsocietyofnewportcounty  #newportmansions  #theelms #thebreakers  #marblehouse #rosecliff  #newport_mansi...
