We are celebrating our 75th anniversary this year! The Preservation Society of Newport County was founded in 1945 as part of an effort to save historic Hunter House. Newport was very different then. World War II was just ending and the city was facing hard financial times as the war wound down. And yet, a small group of citizens led by prominent women like Maude Wetmore and Katherine Warren saw historic preservation as the means to economic prosperity. Saving Newport's past could mean saving Newport's future. Today, we have become stewards of 11 historic properties and give over 1 million tours a year to visitors from all over the world. The Preservation Society has also become a major thought leader in historic preservation nationally and internationally. We are grateful to the many others who contributed to the growth of the Preservation Society since its founding. #thepreservationsocietyofnewportcounty  #newportmansions  #theelms #thebreakers  #marblehouse #rosecliff  #newport_mans...
