Each winter, some of our trees get a little trim to keep their outward growth in check and retain their shape. Arborists with Bartlett Tree Experts have been working on European beech, ginkgo and katsura trees on the grounds of The Elms, shearing off new shoots that grew during the past year around the perimeter of each tree’s canopy. The European beech in this photo is original to the property, making it more than 100 years old, but it keeps its smoothly rounded shape thanks to this annual care. #thepreservationsocietyofnewportcounty  #newportmansions  #theelms #thebreakers  #marblehouse #rosecliff  #newport_mansions #newportri  #daytrip  #gildedage  #rhodeisland  #americanhistory #NewEnglandDayTrip  #NewEngland #theoceanstate #theclassiccoast
