Winter is when our conservators and caretakers tackle some of the big cleaning jobs in the houses. This month they are vacuuming curtains, draperies, upholstered furniture and other textiles. It takes a lot of advance planning to assess each object and ensure that each is cleaned using conservation-safe methods. Currently, the team is focused on cleaning carpets and furniture in the Morning Room of The Breakers. Above, Collections Care Technician Dagan Farancz is using a special vacuum and a screen to clean seat cushions without damaging the fibers. #thepreservationsociety #psnc #newportmansions #newport_mansions
