NASAHubble captured this edge-on view of the Whirlpool Galaxy, a spiral galaxy that lies 50 million light-years away in the constellation Horologium.ā£ā£

The stars that reside in the galactic arms of a spiral galaxy are constantly spinning around the galaxy's core, with stars that lie on the outside moving slower than those closer to the galaxy's center. The arms of the Whirlpool Galaxy are star-formation factories filled with hydrogen gas and dust, creating clusters of new stars.ā£ā£

Image description: The Whirlpool Galaxy extends from the bottom-right of this image toward the center in colors of yellow, white, gold, and blue. The brightest area lies near the galaxy's core. The color fades as it streaks diagonally to the upper left. Countless tiny blue stars dot the image.ā£ā£
