LGBTQ+ Pride Month: Michaela Jaé Rodriguez
Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, born on January 7, 1991, in Newark, New Jersey, is an actress, singer, and activist known for her work in “Pose,” “Loot,” and Broadway’s “Rent.” In 2022, she made history as the first openly transgender actor to win a Golden Globe award, Best Actress in a TV Drama, for her performance in “Pose.” She was named one of TIME’s 2022 Women of the Year, The Advocate’s 2021 “Person of the Year,” and was the recipient of GLAAD’s Stephen F. Kolzak Award in 2022. The actress is an outspoken activist for transgender rights and Black Lives Matter, and served as a grand marshal of the 2019 Pride March in New York City alongside “Pose” costars. This year, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez was honored by the Human Rights Campaign with the Equality Award for advocating for the LGBTQ+ community.
