Ky Robinson 🇦🇺 had quite the trip in Austin, Texas for this year’s NCAA Division 1 Track & Field Championships, as he became the first man to pull off the 5000m & 10000m distance double since the great Edward Cheserek of Oregon in 2016.
On Wednesday night, the Brisbane native surged to a 28:10.98 clocking in the Men’s 10000m, thanks to a last lap split of 54.19, a kick that proved absolutely lethal for his first NCAA outdoor title.
Last night in the Men’s 5000m, Robinson dropped a last 1600m split of 4:04.47 to cruise to a comfortable 14:04.77 victory over a quality field that featured the likes of Nico Young (NAU), Charles Hicks (Stanford), Graham Blanks (Harvard), and Brian Fay (Washington).
Robinson now joins an exclusive distance double club that includes some of the greatest collegiate runners of all time:
• Julio Marin 🇨🇷 (USC) -> 1963
• Gerry Lindgren 🇺🇸 (Washington State) -> 1966-1969
• John Ngeno 🇰🇪 (Washington State) -> 1975
• Suleiman Nyambui 🇹🇿 (UTEP) -...
