New Caledonia have scored the first-ever goal for their nation at a major women’s international tournament. Playing at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, 19-year-old Joceline Kourevi made history with an 89th-minute strike against Nigeria, smashing it from long range to give Les Cagous their first goal on the global stage. Having beaten Tahiti and Fiji to qualify, New Caledonia became the first women’s side from the nation to reach a FIFA tournament. The defeat to Nigeria was a heavy one, but simply getting to Poland was a huge achievement for a country with a population of fewer than 300,000. Salute to this group for making history and becoming part of New Caledonia’s football heritage. #newcaledonia #woso #football #futebol #Soccer
