Never has a group that got no-hit felt better about itself than Roy C. Ketcham High School's baseball team did Saturday afternoon. The crew from Wappingers Falls scratched across two third-inning runs, got a three-hitter from junior right-hander Riley Weatherwax and a sparkling performance defensively to pull out a 2-1 victory over Section 11 champion Commack in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA championship game at Mirabito Stadium. The zero in the hit column on the scoreboard stood out. But the advantage next to it in the runs column was all that mattered. "I don’t know if that’s ever been done," Ketcham coach Pat Mealy said of earning a state title without a hit. "This is a team that has overcome so much adversity throughout the course of the year and this is just another example of the adversity we overcame.
