In 1957, Victoria Police formed the five-man Accident Appreciation Squad to investigate most of the serious accidents in the state in an attempt to reduce the number of tragic deaths on our roads.
The Squad was later renamed the Major Collisions Investigation Unit (MCIU) which nowadays includes more than 35 specialist investigators comprising mechanics, reconstructionists, analysts and support staff and attends over 150 crashes each year statewide.
