At 18, Peire Wilson @champ_man_p, born and raised in #NorfolkVA, dropped out of school after the murder of a friend. He returned to school to study at @LaGuardiaCC and became the first student from a community college in the @CIEEStudyAbroad @CenterForMSIs #FrederickDouglassGlobalFellowship. Peire found friends and healing with the other Fellows. "I told them, ‘Honestly, the biggest privilege I have is just being alive. My friend died when he was 18.’ I broke down in tears. That was one of the first moments that my friend’s murder hit me. I told them, ‘You all just need to appreciate just being here. Just having breath in your lungs.’ We were all crying.
