As part of the Lower Lot expansion in 1991, Universal Studios Hollywood incorporated Soundstages 30 and 32 into a standalone attraction known as "The World of Cinemagic" (1991-2002), separate from the Studio Tour (Backlot Tram Tour). Previously, it was called "The Preview Center" and was sponsored by kodak. The attraction featured video hosts David Hasselhoff in the preshow/holding area and Robert Wagner in the main show across the three sets.
In 2002, the name was changed to the Special Effects Stages. Visitors could experience the special effects of films like Back to the Future, The Magic of Alfred Hitchcock, and the sound effects studio for Harry and the Hendersons. Over time, the sets were updated with scenes from other Universal films and NBCUniversal TV shows. The attraction closed in 2010, and some parts of the building were repurposed to support the creation of Transformers: The Ride 3D.
