Alex Ovechkin has announced that 2026-27 will be his final season, bringing a 22-year career with the Washington Capitals to a close. The 41-year-old leaves the game as the NHL’s all-time goals leader, with 929 and counting, along with the league records for power-play goals and game-winning goals. Ovechkin also owns the NHL records for most 30-goal seasons (20) and 40-goal seasons (14), while his nine 50-goal seasons are tied with Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy for the most ever. He’ll have one last season to add to one of the most decorated scoring résumés in hockey history. (via @NHL, @Washington Capitals) #ovechkin #retirement #NHL #hockey #legend
