NEW RECORD: Private equity billionaire José E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones are set to purchase the San Diego Padres for $3.9 billion, the highest price ever paid for an MLB franchise. The deal surpasses the previous record set by Steve Cohen’s $2.42 billion acquisition of the Mets in 2020 and will move the Padres into the No. 5 spot among MLB’s most valuable teams. The team is being sold by the Seidler family ownership group following the 2023 death of longtime control owner Peter Seidler. The Padres were last purchased in 2012 for $800 million, with the club’s valuation having grown nearly 5x since that transaction. (via @The Wall Street Journal, @cnbc) #MLB #franchises #most #valuable #yankees
