This was the meet where I won my first individual National Title on platform. And then I won springboard the very next day. Sounds so nice and smooth, almost as if it happened so naturally and without any challenges. Easy, right? But one of my teammates (a very close friend) died in a car accident just two months before this. I was a mess. My teammates were a mess. But at least we were a mess together. We had a little team meeting before the meet started, and we dedicated that competition to Hilary. That’s the first time I remember giving all of myself for more than just my own goals or desires. I was filled with purpose and fueled by passion. That commitment allowed me to fully embrace each moment and find joy in the midst of sorrow.
