For 9-year-old Ariel, being a big sister means being a hero when moments matter. After her little brother, Elijah, fell into the pool, she jumped in and saved his life.
"I saw the back door open," Ariel said. "I went to go check and saw my little brother face down in the water. I jumped in and got him."
Noticing her little brother was pale with purple lips, Ariel began performing CPR. She used what she remembered from a YouTube video.
"We were just panicking," said Ariel's dad, Robert.
Robert took over CPR until little Elijah finally began to breathe again. The family rushed him to the hospital. The doctor's told them had Ariel not started CPR when she did, Elijah may not have survived.
"She's my miracle baby," said Ariel's mom, Sharlene. "She saved my son's life."
For her quick actions and bravery, Ariel received the Inland Empire Youth Hero award from the SoCalRedCross.
"She had unlimited strength that day to save her little brother," Robert said. "She's a real super hero."
