When blood is spurting, pooling, or is enough to fill half a can of soda, you need to act fast.
These are all signs of life-threatening bleeding, which means you should:
- Call 911.
- Use a tourniquet if available, the wound is on a limb, and you are trained to use one.
- Otherwise, place a sterile dressing directly on the wound.
- Apply hard, direct pressure, making sure there's a hard surface under the injured area.
- Make sure the pressure being applied is at least as much as a blood pressure cuff.
Be confident and have the skills to act during an emergency like life-threatening bleeding. This Stop The Bleed Day, take a first aid class with us.
