Every parent and babysitter needs to know this.
Button batteries, which are found in everyday objects like thermometers and remotes, are dangerous if swallowed. The battery's chemicals can cause severe, permanent damage to the esophagus or other vital parts of the body.
If a child swallows a button battery:
1. Call 911 or take the child to an emergency room right away.
2. If the child is at least 1 years old, you can give them honey to help slow the rate of burning tissue.
Our new Babysitter's Training course and free Child Care app can help you feel more confident and prepared to act during emergencies like this. Download the app or learn more about taking a class near you by tapping the link in our bio.
