It's floofy. It's cuddly. But it won't prevent frostbite.
A dog's fur will help protect them from the elements, but frostbite is actually the freezing of exposed skin on the body.
If your dog's skin is pale or discolored and they have a lack of pain or sensation in the affected area, you should:
- Take your dog out of the cold right away.
- Call your emergency vet.
- Lightly apply a warm compress to the area.
- Avoid rubbing or applying pressure.
