It's easy to forget about a hurricane once it's no longer in the news, but the hardships can be long-lasting for people directly impacted by one. In Barbados, Hurricane Beryl left a heavy financial toll when it hit the island in July. “This is my livelihood,” said June Cummins, who runs a stall at a fish market in Barbados. For 30 years, she has been a fish vendor, continuing a family tradition once held by her mother and brothers. June is making only half of what she did before Beryl. When the storm hit, the boats she worked with were damaged or destroyed. The BarbadosRedCross has been responding since the storm and recently met with June and other vendors to learn more about the ongoing impact on fishing. With the information provided by June and others, the Red Cross is creating plans to assist as many local fish market vendors as possible. #Barbados #Fishing #HurricaneBeryl #FishMarket #CommunityResilience
