Our founder Clara Barton was an inspiration to many. Her humanitarian efforts even influenced the formation of the Cuban Red Cross. When people needed help during and after the Spanish-American War, Clara and the Red Cross were there. She joined volunteers to bring food, clothes and medical supplies to the public. She supported hospitals and even established orphanages for children orphaned because of the war. The Spanish-American War was an important moment in Red Cross history — it was the first time the American Red Cross provided war-related assistance to U.S. troops. #RedCrossHistory #Archives #MilitarySupport #ClaraBarton #HumanitarianAid
