In his 40 years of being a paramedic, Ed Moreshead has never been a patient in the back of an ambulance himself. That changed last year. Ed was coming off a 48-hour shift when he started to feel sick. His symptoms got worse as the night went on. He fainted on his way to the bathroom, and when he regained consciousness, he called his wife for help. In the emergency room, Ed was diagnosed with a severe gastrointestinal bleed. He received 10 units of blood — about the volume of blood the average adult has in their entire body. “If the blood hadn’t been there, I would have died,” Ed said. “I would have died, probably in the first couple of days. I would not have made it five days.” Ed is now healthy and doing well thanks to his care tea...
