“Every single piece of lawn, every house, every tree, every single thing, all the way to the ocean and all the way down, was on fire.”
Chris Phillips shared this heartbreaking moment of when he saw the historic city of Lahaina devastated by wildfires with Red Cross shelter worker Richard Byam. He fled the flames and smoke with his friends and made his way to a Red Cross shelter in Honolulu. There, he found Red Cross disaster workers providing people refuge, food and comfort.
“We have this place that’s been keeping a roof over everybody’s head so far,” Chris said. “[We’re] being fed and [we have] showers and clothes, everything that you can really ask for right now in a time like this.”
