“Water is scarce for us." Podinewika is a grandmother and farmer who lives in Sri Lanka, where climate change has caused severe droughts. Many people are facing food insecurity and the loss of their livelihoods as a result. Nearly five years ago the SLRedCross launched the Climate Resilient Integrated Water Management Project to help farmers and families in need of precious water. In Galgamuwa, where Podinewika lives, Red Cross teams are working on a large system of groundwater recharging units and a runoff water collection pit. Simply put, this will help store water for use when a drought happens and support Podinewika's crops. Podinewika is optimistic about the future.
