For the first time ever during our art auction, we showcased art from four different artists who are currently incarcerated in prisons across the South (VA, SC & NC). One of our Center for Women residents, Harmony (right), created and donated this beautiful piece for the auction that features a picture and quote from Nelson Mandela. An anonymous donor purchased the work and re-gifted it to us. Here’s a snapshot of it in its new home, hanging outside of our counseling room on our campus. Also pictured (left), our Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Joanna. 60% of the sales from prison art pieces will be donated back to the artist to help reduce the barriers they face getting the supplies and materials they need to create art while incarcerated.
