This young female whale- only about two or three years old- was discovered washed up on shore near Cape Cod. With only about 70 reproductive females left in this population, every individual whale is vital to the survival of this species. Our team is on site to help learn more about what went wrong. By performing a necropsy (an animal autopsy), we can conduct research on possible causes of death. Entanglement and vessel strikes are the leading causes of North Atlantic right whale deaths- both of which are human caused. These whales are not dying of old age. #Whales #EndangeredSpecies NMFS Permit #24359
