The imagery❗The onomatopoeia❗This Silver Award winning poem from our 2020 Ocean Awareness Contest gives us LIFE 🌱🌼💧🤲
🐦 "The concept of the bird in a cage representing Mother Nature came to me when we were spelunking in Belize, and my mom mentioned the phrase 'canary in a coal mine,' referring to the oxygen levels in the cave at the time," Tara wrote
✍️ "The idea stuck with me—how oxygen levels can be seen in the health and well-being of a bird. I translated this into my piece, trapping Mother Nature in a cage behind bars, surviving on the hopes that we can transform this crisis; that all species and life will come together, will connect, and remember that the one thing that binds us all together is our planet Earth."
Who's ready to unite for our blue planet? ✋
